Summer Solstice is Coming!

Summer Solstice is Coming!

The official date of the longest day of the year is June 20th, 2020. The exact time of summer solstice on the West Coast is 2:44pm PT![1]

The summer solstice marks the OFFICIAL start of summer and it’s also the longest day of the year! Anyone located in the Northern Hemisphere will have days longer than 12 hours at the June solstice (and locations in the Southern Hemisphere will have days shorter than 12!)[2]

The solstice is an astronomical event, caused by the Earth’s tilt on it’s axis and it’s motion in orbit around the sun.

We’ll notice the early dawns and late sunsets, and see how high the sun is at 12pm, local time.

NOW, with all that daylight, what are the best ways to spend it?? Here are a few options:

  1. Watch the sunrise
  2. Many Kaia ladies are used to seeing the sunset as we head to early classes. But when was the last time you woke up, and sat in silence to watch the sunrise? I remember mine…it was 5 years ago when I went to North Carolina for a family visit. These memories stick close to us.
  3. Meditate
  4. Use the quiet time in the am, prior to anyone else being up, to sit in stillness and listen to the Earth wake up around you.
  5. Go on a morning jog or bike ride
  6. Eat a healthy breakfast
  7. Take your pup for a walk
  8. Ride your bike or walk to work
  9. Plant flowers or a vegetable garden
  10. Go swimming
  11. Eat lunch outside
  12. Stretch or do your workout outside in the sun
  13. Read a book under a shady tree or on a quiet park bench
  14. Watch the sunset
